Indian captain Virat Kohli recently opened up on his equation with former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Kohli used adjectives such as ‘lovely’ and ‘effortless’ with the Indian stalwart to describe his relationship with the Indian stalwart.
Kohli mentioned that his rapport with the former Indian captain comes with mutual admiration and respect.
“The equation with MS is lovely. There are no efforts needed and the understanding is effortless and that comes with mutual respect,” Virat Kohli told Boria Mazumdar of India Today.
“Understanding that both individuals want the best thing for the nation and once you have that belief and that trust, as I said, you don’t need to prove anything to each other,” added the RCB skipper.
Kohli stated that the criticism Dhoni faced over the years is unfair as he was responsible for the seamless transition in Indian cricket.
“If someone raises questions about him and what his interests are for the Indian cricket team, I think it’s very unfair on him because he has literally created this new bunch of people and given them such confidence after such big stars left Indian cricket,” pointed out the Indian all-format captain.

According to Virat, despite facing the heat, Dhoni never let the youngsters in the team feel any kind of pressure or displayed any signs of frustration.
“He was the one coping up with all the criticism and all the blame when the team was in transition and not being able to give the results… But not once did he show his frustration to the team,” Kohli stated.
“Also, he kept his composure which I think is the biggest positive… I have seen those times and I respect him so much for that because he never let us feel the pressure of what’s happening,” continued Kohli.
Furthermore, the astute think in the form of Dhoni remains special for Virat Kohli.
Moreover, the former provided him with the space required during the initial stages of his career.
“He wanted to give us the space to grow… And that to me is a very, very special gesture from someone who has been around for so long and still is able to take the pressure off the youngsters and not worry about what people are saying about him as an individual,” concluded Virat Kohli.
