As of now, the Indian National Cricket Team has three concerns to pick their world cup squad. One is wicketkeeper slot followed by the number 4 batsman and the fourth bowling option for the team. Meanwhile, the legendary Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid makes his voice on the wicketkeeper slot when asked to pick between Rishabh Pant and MS Dhoni.
The Delhi Capitals star proved his worth in white ball cricket yet again despite the fact that there’s still no surety of him being picked in the World Cup squad. In between, the impact when MS Dhoni missed a couple of games against Australia clearly showed his value in the team.
As a Coach, I shouldn’t pick – Rahul Dravid
When asked to pick one between Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Rishabh Pant, Dravid quoted that being a coach of the national team, he shouldn’t pick one between the both. However, he expressed his opinion on the duo.
Speaking of MS Dhoni, he quoted that the Ranchi Cricket has an immense experience under his kitty and can deliver the goods for the team under pressure. Meanwhile, he calls Rishabh Pant as an exciting talent.
“As a coach of the India U-19 team, I should not be commenting on who should be included. Everyone is the same for me. All I will say is that Dhoni has incredible experience and he has been playing very well in the past few months. Rishabh is definitely an exciting young player and he has got the talent,” Dravid told TOI.
All in all, it would be an interesting world cup selection with a lot of players available in the ranks. There is a stiff competition between Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik for the second wicketkeeper option. However, selectors might also leave both of them, as KL Rahul is in the side.
“If the selectors feel, two wicketkeepers can play. The best 15 should be in the team,” the legendary Indian cricketer further suggested.
It would be interesting to see how things would turn out. Most probably, MS Dhoni will be the regular wicketkeeper. It would be a see-saw between Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik.
