While there is absolutely no denying the fact that Mahendra Singh Dhoni is one of the most beloved cricketers in the country after taking the team to unprecedented heights in the game but one aspect that always made the fans and critics target him was his penchant for supporting a select group of players. Despite the repeated failures, the Indian skipper persisted with the likes of Rohit Sharma, R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.
Well, the Indian team, as well as fans, should be grateful to the World Cup-winning captain for backing the players who have now become the lynchpins of the Indian team. Ashwin and Jadeja
Ashwin and Jadeja are two of the biggest contributors in India’s impressive performances in Tests in recent times. Virat Kohli’s men are currently the top-ranked side in the world and Ashwin and Jadeja have played a pivotal role in it.
The spin duo has once again proved their worth in the ongoing five-match series against England as the hosts won the fourth Test at the Wankhede to take an unassailable lead of 3-0 and win the series.
In the first Test at Rajkot, when the hosts were on the backfoot and were in danger of losing the match, Jadeja played an important knock to help his team draw the game. Before that, Ashwin had scored 70 runs in the first innings.
In the next Test at Vizag, Ashwin took eight wickets to help the hosts take a 1-0 lead in the series. In Mohali, both the spinners scored half-centuries to help their team take a huge lead. They continued their impressive form in Mumbai too as Ashwin took 12 wickets while Jadeja took 6 wickets in the match as India thrashed the visitors by an innings and 36 runs.
Dhoni will undoubtedly be very pleased with the duo’s performance. The Indian skipper was widely criticised for favouring them but no one has given him the credit for Jadeja and Ashwin’s performance that has helped the team to win match after match.
