MS Dhoni retired from international cricket on Saturday 15th of August after unparalleled contributions in the Indian Test, ODI, and T20Is. Amit Shah, Union Home Minister has thanked the former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni for his creditable contributions to Indian cricket and hopes that he continues doing so by contributing to the Indian team’s success in the future.
He is the most successful test captain and has won both ODI and T20I World Cup in 2011 and 2007 respectively. MS Dhoni‘s retirement will mean that the helicopter shot, a batting shot that he invented and performed extraordinarily well, will no longer be seen in the international arena. The keeper is married to Sakshi and has a daughter Ziva.

Amit Shah thanked MS Dhoni for unparalleled contributions by turning many close encounters in India’s favor besides mesmerizing millions of fans across the globe with his unique style of cricket and also noted that the helicopter shot will be missed by the world along with acknowledging the fact that India was twice World Champions in different formats-namely One Day and Twenty Twenty Internationals under him. He hoped that MS Dhoni will contribute more to Indian cricket even after his retirement.

MS Dhoni is the only captain in the world to win all the three ICC trophies-ODI and T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy in 2011,2007 and 2013 respectively. He also captains his franchise Chennai Super Kings in Indian Premier League and will be seen in the yellow jersey in IPL 2020, but will never again be a part of the dressing room of ‘men in blue’. MS Dhoni retired on Independence Day meaning the 2019 World Cup semi-final was his last appearance where India lost.

MS Dhoni has been a wicket-keeper and has featured in 90 tests, 350 ODIs, and 98 T20Is where he scored 4,876, 10,773, and 1,617 runs. He has played the most international matches-332 as captain, besides having most wins-41 as captain in T20Is and is the most successful Indian Test captain with 27 wins in 60 matches.
He is the third captain overall to win 100 ODI matches and was the fourth Indian and second wicket-keeper to reach 10000 ODI runs. He is also the first player to cross 10000 runs having a career average of over 50 in ODIs. His highest ODI score of 183 not out is the highest by any wicket-keeper in ODIs.

Former and current Indian cricketers lavishly praised the former skipper for his immense contribution towards Indian cricket. He brought curtains to his 15 years of cricketing career with an Instagram post on Independence day.
Former opener Virender Sehwag thanked him for memories while current opener Rohit Sharma credited the former skipper for being influential. Suresh Raina also retired along with MS Dhoni, but both of them will be seen performing for Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming IPL 2020.
