Former Indian National Cricket team coach and skipper Anil Kumble has urged the team management to bat MS Dhoni at no four in the upcoming ICC World Cup. Meanwhile, the men in blues have suffered with their middle order from quite some time now. Also, the recent loss against Australia have made the batting order look more unsettled with the showpiece event three months far.
Virat Kohli & Co went 3-2 down in the five-match series after going 2-0 up in the series. The Aussies bounced back in style with their batsmen standing against all the odds to back his bowlers to stage a comeback. In the last game at Delhi, the bowling department posed a lot of threat as the Indian batters failed to chase down 272 runs. The top-order has struggled to perform consistently with only skipper Virat Kohli doing all the batting. The top-order comprising of Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma has struggled to put good opening stands which have hurt the batsmen to follow.
Anil Kumble while speaking to CricketNext, admitted that the batting has looked unsettled. He still believes that the top-order needs to score runs in an ODI match. However, the Indian National Cricket team have lacked it in recent times result why we have to debate about the middle-order.
“Yeah, there is because if you look back at the last couple of years of success that the Indian team has had, it has been mainly due to the fact that the top-3 have performed consistently, and it still remains so. In a 50 over game, you want your top-3 to contribute. But what if they don’t contribute? That’s why we’re discussing and debating our middle order,” Kumble said.
MS Dhoni should bat at 4
Furthermore, Anil Kumble still believes MS Dhoni should come at no four for India in the World Cup. There have been wide-ranging debates regarding the same, and the inconsistency of Ambati Rayudu has ignited the discussion again. The champion leg-spinner feels the management did a lot of chopping and changes other than trying MS Dhoni. Kumble feels this has made the batting order look more unsettled.
“For me, I still believe MS Dhoni should bat at 4. (Numbers) 5,6,7 is something that you need to start thinking about, and that’s where I felt that there was too much chopping, changing and trying to figure out who will fit in into that 4, 5 or 6 in that middle order other than MS Dhoni. That to me has made it a little more unsettling for us, watching from outside,” Kumble concluded.
