Veteran India wicket-keeper, MS Dhoni will be seen in action once again, as India is gearing up for the Asia Cup 2018 in the UAE.
The Men in Blue will look to defend the title in the tournament, which begins on September 15th. However, the side is aligned alongside Hong Kong and Pakistan in the group A.
However, regular India captain, Virat Kohli has been rested to balance out the work-load. With some of the challenging tours, including the one against Australia on the cards, the management wanted him to take a break. Dhoni, on the other hand, will be fresh and will be raring to go. Rohit Sharma, however, would lead the side in Asia Cup 2018.
MS Dhoni set to be back in action
Regular Test wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha’s injury paved the way for Rishabh Pant in the series against England. Pant scored his maiden hundred in the fifth Test at The Oval.
While many critics feel the hard-hitting batsman should replace veteran MS in the limited overs cricket, Virender Sehwag is against the idea. The former Indian opener feels Dhoni’s experience makes him an ideal candidate to play in the 2019 World Cup in England.
Sehwag bats for Dhoni
“In my personal opinion, MS Dhoni should continue till the 2019 World Cup. Even if you play Pant in ODIs from now, he won’t be able to play more than 15-16 ODIs till the World Cup which is far less compared to Dhoni, who has played over 300 ODIs. I would want Dhoni to continue till the World Cup,” Sehwag was quoted as saying on India TV.
However, India in the Asia Cup 2018 would begin their campaign on September against Hong Kong and faces arch-rivals Pakistan on the next day. slowest fifty in odi
