MS Dhoni, Sourav Ganguly, Leander Paes and others help a cancer patient

Two of the India’s most successful captains MS Dhoni and Sourav Ganguly alongside legendary tennis player Leander Paes are among the host of top sportsmen who have come forward to help a Kolkata-based cancer patient named Bapi Majhi and the family of deceased Alip Chakraborty who has passed away due to throat cancer recently.

A charity event is set to take place at a Central Kolkata hotel on June 11 to raise the funds to help Bapi Majhi and Alip Chakraborty’s family. It is set to be conducted by Greymind Communication, a Kolkata-based sports media group.

The current Indian limited overs captain, MS Dhoni has donated his wicket keeping gloves and pads used in limited overs where as Sourav Ganguly has donated a couple of his jerseys.

Bangladeshi cricketer, Shakib-Al-Hasan has donated a signed bat where as Indian test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane donated autographed India jersey for the auction.

Former Indian legend VVS Laxman, KKR players Manish Pandey and Brad Hogg, Indian women’s team pace bowler Jhulan Goswami, Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri and his team-mate Jeje Lalpheklhua have all donated their jerseys. Indian Goalkeeper Gurpreet Sandhu who is first Indian to play in European top division has given his signed keeping gloves.

The event has been planned to collect and hand over the proceedings to Bapi Majhi’s family who is currently undergoing treatment for liver cancer. Also, a part of the proceedings will be handed over to late Alip Chakraborty’s wife for the education of her children.
