MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli are the Pillars of Indian Cricket: Yuzvendra Chahal

Team India leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has stated that current captain Virat Kohli and former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni are the guiding lights of his career who has helped in every aspect to improve his game. During an interview with CricNext, Chahal said that if it were not for Kohli and MS Dhoni, he wouldn’t have been able to scale the heights which he has in his short career so far. He revealed that the duo had always helped him and had supported him all through his career so far.

“It is always crucial to have a guiding light, but fortunately for me, I have two in Kohli bhai and Mahi bhai (Dhoni). While the skipper is like a friend, constantly trusting me to go ahead and implement the plans I wish to on the field, Mahi bhai is more like the mentor I turn to every time I have any doubt in my head. Being the wicket keeper, he has a clear idea of what is going on and what could be the ideal strategy against a certain batsman,” Chahal stated.

Chahal who has been a pretty useful bowler for his franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League is part of the 16 man squad for the five match ODI series against Aussies. The Indian team management yet again decided to give ret to two leading spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja as Ravi Shastri mentioned that their primary focus is Test cricket and there is still two years for Ashwin and Jadeja to cement their place in the limited overs side.

Chahal was also part of the playing XI on all the five matches during the recently concluded ODI series against Sri Lanka which the Men in Blue won by a 5-0 margin. He is just played 7 ODI’s and 7 T20I’s in his short career and will be a senior spinner in the upcoming series against the Aussies.

“I must say that thanks to the skipper, I now have the confidence to bowl anywhere in the innings and in any situation. Be it the first over of a T20 game or the 50th over of an ODI game, I am ready to go through the grind and give it my best. And I must say that along with having faith in my own belief, it is the seniors like Kohli bhai and Mahi bhai who make the job of youngsters like me easier,” he said.
