MS Dhoni Visits Ranchi Pitch Ahead Of Crucial Third Border-Gavaskar Test
With Jharkhand State Cricket Association Stadium gearing up to host its first-ever Test, former India skipper MS Dhoni made a surprise visit to the ground on Wednesday (February 8).
The 35-year old, who has retired from the longest format of the game in 2014, is back in his home town after leading his state team to the quarterfinals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He was see having a discussion with the pitch curator ahead of the important third Border-Gavaskar Test.
The pitches have already garnered lot of attention in the ongoing series due to all the wrong reasons but pitch curator SB Singh ended all speculations by saying that it was a routine visit from the Indian star.
“When he’s here, he often visits the stadium for fitness work out and spends long time at the gym. Today was no different. He also saw the wicket and we had an informal discussion. This is not unusual for me,” Singh told PTI.
“He has never intervened in pitch preparation in the last four years. Being such a great player, I always look forward to his inputs on the quality of wicket.
Meanwhile, the Jharkhand State Cricket Association Stadium has prepared three wickets for the upcoming Test and Singh said that all the pitches will last for five days. The first two matches have ended inside three and four days, with the bowlers wreaking havoc on batsmen on turning pitches but Singh is confident the pitch in the upcoming Test will have something for both batsmen as well bowlers.
“Each of them will behave differently. The team will choose the strip two days before the match. The pitch will suit both the batsmen and bowlers and will definitely last five days,” he added.
