Pakistan’s greatest fast bowler Waqar Younis has credited Sourav Ganguly to build a tough Indian side while he applauded MS Dhoni for taking on the legacy forward. He has labelled Dhoni as the Champion who took India to three ICC trophies victories.
Former Indian captain MS Dhoni, who is currently under sabbatical, has led the team to ICC World Cup 2011, ICC T20 World Cup 2007 and ICC Champions Trophy 2013 triumphs. He has also given many memorable knocks with his bat and has shown marvellous with his quick-firing wicket-keeping skills. He is also known for leading the team with calmness, even though the team has lost hopes, which makes him the greatest captain.
What a cricketer MS Dhoni is! The way he led the team: Waqar Younis
Waqar Younis, speaking to Glofans in online chat show Q20 on Twitter, said that MS Dhoni’s contribution can not be expressed in words. The former cricketer said that the wicket-keeper batsman was the greatest leader who understood his team’s need.
“Ganguly was the one who started that journey of improvement for Indian cricket and Dhoni took that ahead. Dhoni is a world champions and won two World Cups. I think he has done wonderfully for his country and, of course, for his family, ” Waqar Younis said.
“What a cricketer Dhoni is! The way he led the team, it is difficult to express it in words. He is a very good and big leader who understands things,” he added.
Meanwhile, MS Dhoni last played for India in the disheartening semi-final against New Zealand in World Cup 2019 where he scored a half-century but could lead the team to finish line as India fell short of 18 runs.
Since then, he has not played a competitive match. He continues to remain silent on his comeback which is increasing his speculation of retirement. The Ranchi star has represented India in 350 ODIs, 90 Test matches and 98 T20Is.
