MSK Prasad will officially take part in his final meeting as the Chairman of the national selection panel later this week as The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has started the procedure to name his replacement. The board has invited applications for the post of various national selection committees – men’s team, women’s team and junior team.

There are two vacancies available in the men’s selection panel while all five positions in the women’s category are up for grabs. The junior selection panel also needs two selectors.

Apart from Prasad, Gagan Khoda will also participate in his final selection meeting as both the selectors have completed their tenures. Both the former cricketers had joined the selection panel in November 2015. Prasad came in place of Roger Binny while Khoda had replaced Rajinder Singh Hans.
Prasad was elevated to the Chairman’s post once Sandeep Patil completed his term in 2016. He (Prasad) was joined by new selectors Sarandeep Singh, Devang Gandhi and Jatin Paranjape. The trio will serve in the panel for six more months.

As per the BCCI’s release, a player should have played at least seven Tests or 30 first-class matches or 10 ODIs and 20 first-class matches to apply for a position in men’s selection committee. Also, he should have retired at least five years ago.

All the former women cricketers who have played even one match for Team India are eligible to part of the women’s selection committee. Also, she should have retired from the game at least five years ago.
For the junior selection panel, a former cricketer who played 25 first-class matches and retired five years ago is eligible to apply for the position.
Since there is no Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) in place, the process to pick selectors might take some time. The names of Madan Lal, Gautam Gambhir and Sulakshana Naik were in discussion last week but BCCI hasn’t made anything official yet.
