Making his comeback to competitive cricket after recovering from a shoulder issue, Prithvi Shaw slammed a quick-fire 150 off just 100 balls to steer India A to a big total of 372 in the second practice match against New Zealand A. Shaw, who opened the innings with Mayank Agarwal, scored 22 fours and two sixes.

The duo put up 89 runs on the board for the first wicket, with Shaw making a major contribution. The youngster continued to stitch partnerships with the middle-order batsmen and propelled the score past 200. All-rounder Vijay Shankar gave the finishing touch to the innings with 58 off 41, making a strong case to make a comeback in the national squad. Apart from him, Krunal Pandya too played a fine knock of 32 off 33.

Shaw, with his innings, has pressed his case for a recall in the national team. Presently, he is behind Shubman Gill in the pecking order but Shaw has been in fine form since his comeback. He has already scored a double-century in Ranji Trophy and with a 150 here, he has made it clear that he wants his place back.

He might also pip Mayank in the pecking order for the reserve opener’s slot in ODIs. Mayank has been selected in ODI squad twice but is yet to make his debut. He hasn’t come up with big scores so far and a lean patch can see him go down to Shaw in the pecking order in this format. In Tests, though, he and Rohit Sharma are first-choice openers.

Earlier in the day, India A made a couple of changes in the playing XI. Ishan Kishan and Ishan Porel were included in the playing XI. Kishan replaced Sanju Samson, who just managed four runs in the first practice match.
Chasing the target, New Zealand A are two down for 51 in 12 overs. Porel has been the sole wicket-taker for the visitors so far.
