Too much talking does not help – Rohit Sharma

Vizag witnessed a complete upset as the Kings XI Punjab savagely ripped apart the Mumbai Indians. Things look haywire for Rohit Sharma’s men at Vizag, as after an embarrassing loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad, a darker defeat has been dished out to them by the Kings XI Punjab. The Kings might not be in the reckoning anymore, but they definitely would want to upset the plans of a few sides.

On winning the toss, Rohit Sharma opted to go against the trend, and batted first. That was the only positive news for Mumbai Indians, as their top order was demolished in no time. Unmukt Chand, playing his first game of the season was dismissed for a duck. Mumbai could set only a target of 125 for the Kings XI, which was easily chased down with 3 overs to spare. Half-centuries from skipper M. Vijay and wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha saw the Kings XI home.

In the post-match presentation, Rohit Sharma admitted that they didn’t read the pitch well.  “I thought the wicket was not easy. It was sticky, it was not coming onto the bat. Having said that, we should have applied ourselves. 124 was not going to be easy to defend. A lot of credits to Kings XI, they stuck to their plans. See, too much talking does not help. Players do understand what needs to be done,” said Sharma.

“We have played two games here, we know the conditions. We know it is not a high scoring ground. SRH defended 136 here. I guess 140 is a good score here,” said Sharma. Seeking some inspiration from his side’s campaign of 2015, Sharma said, “We were in a similar situation last year also. Hopefully, we will regroup from here and put up a performance day after tomorrow.”

Kings XI skipper M. Vijay admitted that 140 was a defendable total indeed. “Definitely as a group, we were playing good cricket. Just needed to sit and talk sense into our heads. The wicket was on the slower side. Everybody was throwing himself out. 140 was a defendable total here, we saw that in the last game. I and Saha were talking about that. You never know this game,” said Vijay.
