History has repeated itself once again as Dev Patel, 15, whilst playing a local game in Mumbai at Oval Maidan, has emulated the great Anil Kumble by taking 10 wickets in an innings to join the elite list of players. He achieved this record while playing for TN Jamnabai Narsee High School.

Batting first, Dev’s team could just score 112 runs. He stood out with the bat too, scoring 35 runs and ended as the highest run-scorer for his team. Now it was the time for the young all-rounder to show his class with the ball as well. No one would have expected that he’ll come up with something like this as the youngster rattled the opposition’s batting line-up, making them dance to the tunes of his off-spin. Rohan’s Vidyalaya could just put 29 runs on the board, six less than what Dev alone scored.

This is the second time in this year when a bowler has taken 10 wickets in an innings as in the month of May, Nazi CT, the 18-year-old bowler from Kerala, scalped 10 wickets in an innings. In the past few years, the instances of a player taking 10 wickets in an innings have increased manifolds as in 2014, Kings XI Punjab spinner Pradeep Sahu was in news for same performance. Vikas Dixit, junior cricketer from Delhi, did the same in 2013 whereas Karan Thakur, Railways pacer, also came up with a performance like this in the same year.

However, in international cricket, only Jim Laker and Anil Kumble are the ones to come up with a performance like this.
