The Indian women’s team led by Mithali Raj qualified for the final of the finals of the World Cup before losing out to England in a close fought encounter. The host’s side batted first and posted a low total of 228 on the board. Though Indian team had a poor start but riding on half centuries from Raut and Harmanpreet Kaur, the women in blue got close to the total and were just 38 runs away from the target with seven wickets in hand before the side lost wickets in quick succession and found themselves short by a margin of nine runs in the end.

On their arrival in the country, the team was received with a great response in Mumbai. They were then taken to Delhi where BCCI held a felicitation ceremony, where each player was given a cheque of 50 Lakh. A meeting with Sports Minister Vijay Goel and PM Narendra Modi followed before players flew back to their home, where they were greeted with warm welcome.

Before MCA, the Railways board had already announced a prize money of 13 Lakh for its 10 cricketers. Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) will also honour its player Jhulan Goswami with a cheque of 10 Lakhs on August 8 in a function.
