Mumbai Indians did not have much work to do during the auction and by picking up Chris Lynn right in the first minute of the auction, they were done with more than half of their work. Yes, the franchise had to do some effort for Nathan Coulter-Nile but otherwise, they bought rest of the players at their base price – including Lynn.
MI chased Coutler-Nile right from the start and were involved in fierce bidding with Chennai Super Kings. Finally, CSK decided against bidding for the Australian pacer after Rs 7.75 Crore and MI had the final say. The right-arm pacer was a part of Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2018 and 2019 but missed both the seasons. Unlike the past two seasons, he is expected to land in India as Coulter-Nile is eyeing to make a comeback in Australia’s T20I squad.
Saurabh Tiwary, Digvijay Deshmukh, Prince Balwant Rai Singh, Mohsin Khan, Coulter-Nile and Lynn were the six players that MI bought in the IPL 2020 auction. Saurabh has been part MI in few seasons in past.
The franchise had already retained its core ahead of the auction and made some smart buys. Ahead of the auction, MI had also roped in Trent Boult (from Delhi Capitals), Dhawal Kulkarni (from Rajasthan Royals) and Sherfane Rutherford (from Delhi Capitals).
MI, the defending champions, had won the IPL title for the record fourth-time by defeating CSK in the final of the tournament earlier this year. Rohit Sharma will continue to lead the Mumbai-based franchise.
Squad: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Sherfane Rutherford, Suryakumar Yadav, Anmolpreet Singh, Chris Lynn, Saurabh Tiwary, Dhawal Kulkarni, Jasprit Bumrah, Lasith Malinga, Mitchell McClenaghan, Rahul Chahar, Trent Boult, Hardik Pandya, Jayant Yadav, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Anukul Roy, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Mohsin Khan, Digvijay Deshmukh, Ishan Kishan, Quinton de Kock, Aditya Tare, Prince Balwant Rai Singh.
