Mumbai Indians (MI) IPL 2017 Schedule: Two-Time Champions Look To Bounce Back This Season

One of the most successful teams in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Mumbai Indians (MI) had an uncharacteristic last season when they failed to make it to the top four or the playoffs for the first time in seven years.

Entering the tournament as defending champions last year, the Mumbai-based outfit was one of the strongest sides of the league. But inconsistency coupled with some injuries to key players like Lasith Malinga and Lendl Simmons derailed their title-defence. Indifferent performances from the likes of Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya and Jos Buttler only made it tough for them to progress in the tournament as they finished fifth in the table.

Despite a poor season by their standards, MI have retained all the big names who have formed the core of the team in the last few years. Apart from Corey Anderson, who did not play a single game last term, they didn’t release any big name. During the player auction last month, the only big overseas player they bought was former Australia pacer Mitchell Johnson. Looking at their business during the auction, one can totally understand they aren’t willing to disturb the team combination.

With their team combination well-intact and balanced, the two-time champions will back themselves for a record third title. They’ll begin their campaign against Rising Pune Supergiants (RPSG) on April 6 in Pune while their last group game is against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on May 13 in Kolkata.
