Preview

The New Zealand team is set to kick-off their India excursion with a much-needed practise game against the defending Ranji Trophy champions, Mumbai. The match will be played in the capital Delhi at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium. The contest will be a three-day affair starting from September 16, 2016. It will be the first and the only practise game that the visiting team is scheduled to participate in before kicking off the international fixtures.

Along with New Zealand team, it will be good warm up for Mumbai team as well before the start of the long and strenuous domestic season. The Indian batsman Rohit Sharma will also be part of the Mumbai roster whereas the Mumbai team will be missing out on services of players like ShreyasIyer, Akhil Herwadkar, Shardul Thakur and DhawalKulkarni. All the four players are in Australia playing the unofficial Test series against the hosts. The bowling line-up of Mumbai looks weak and we may see New Zealand batsmen punishing Mumbai bowlers.

The New Zealand team will get an opportunity to test their spin bowlers, especially IshSodhi who looks quite confident and relaxed.

After the conclusion of the practise game, the New Zealand team will fly to Kanpur to lock horns with the Indian team in the first Test match of the series.

Both the teams will then head east to Kolkata for the second Test followed by travelling to western part of the country, Madhya Pradesh, to conclude the Test series.

Five ODI’s match series will follow the Test series. The Kiwis will announce the squad for ODI series later.

New Zealand squad for practise game and Test series: Kane Williamson (c), Trent Boult, Doug Bracewell, Mark Craig , Martin Guptill, Tom Latham, James Neesham, Henry Nicholls, Luke Ronchi (wk), Mitchell Santner, IshSodhi, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor, Neil Wagner, BJ Watling (wk)
