Mumbai’s Makarand Patil Hits Seven Sixes In A Row

At a time when the entire cricket world is buys watching the ongoing Indian Premier League, 23-year old Makarand Patil has hogged the limelight with his six-hitting exploit. Hailing from Mumbai’s Virar region, Makarand Patil created a unique record by hammering seven sixes in seven balls (six sixes in one over).

Batting at number eight, Patil, who is a salesman by profession,  slammed a quick 84 runs from 26 balls. His stunning knock helped his side Viva Supermarkets clinch the F division Times Shield tournament by defeating Mahindra Logistics at the Sachin Tendulkar Gymkhana in Mumbai.

Patil opened up on the exhilarating experience when he was being cheered on by his teammates while he was thrashing the Mahindra Logistics bowlers. He further said that life would soon change for him and will turn hard before saying that his aim is it break into the Mumbai team.

“Till I hit the fourth six, I didn’t think that I will score six sixes in that over. My teammates kept cheering, I could hear the loud noise when I hit the sixth six. I was over the moon. And later when I faced the seventh ball, I hit that too for a six. It’s a great feeling to be like a star for one day,” Makarand Patil was quoted saying by Indian Express.

“People are still coming to meet me. They are greeting me. The feeling is good but life ahead will not be easy again. I will have to work harder than before. My first aim is to get in the reckoning for the Mumbai team in future,” the Sainath Club player further added.

There are several players who have hit six sixes in an over on the higher stage of the game. However, seven consecutive sixes is unheard of.  The likes of  Garry Sobers, Ravi Shastri, Herschelle Gibbs, Yuvraj Singh, Ross Whiteley and Hazratullah Zazai have hit six sixes in an over. However, only Yuvraj and Gibbs have achieved the feat in international cricket.
