Munaf surprised by not getting selected in IPL 7

The auction process of Indian Premier League session 7 got completed but it brings surprise to Indian pacer Munaf Patel that he was not been picked up by any franchise in the auction. Munaf has been suffering from injuries in the past three years.

Munaf had been bought by Mumbai Indians by $700,000 in 2011, but he played very few matches in the three seasons. He played only four matches in 2013.

Munaf expressed his astonishment to Mumbai Mirrors, said, “I’m surprised too. But I can’t say with any conviction why none of the eight franchisees picked me. I played four Ranji matches and picked up 10 wickets. I played also an Institutional tournament in Mumbai and got few wickets. Now, I’m fit and bowling at decent pace.”

He added, “I’m fit. I’ve played Ranji, office tournaments. I’m going to play one-dayers and T20 for Baroda in coming months.” Munaf had been captivated by wound to a light workload in 2012 but he got busier in 2013 comparatively.

Munaf holds the 12th place in the IPL wicket-taking list. He has set his price at Rs 50 lakh. He has been called as the ‘unsung hero of India’s World cup win’ during his most successful period i.e., 2011. He has been ruled out from the national team around three years but he is keeping hope to get back to join Men in Blue again. “That’s what I’m aiming and trying for. My point is that cricket is the only thing I know and so why will I not take it seriously? This is my passion, bread and butter.”
