Murali Vijay enjoyed a great Test in Bangladesh where he scored a century. Though the Indian team could not get a result due to the rain, the opener would have been happy with his knock.
However, the Test match was not all rosy for Vijay as he was fined 25% of his match fees for non-compliance with the ICC rules and regulations regarding Test cricket.
Vijay, who played a scintillating yet responsible knock, was found to have breached an ICC rule regarding the showing of the sponsor’s logo on the bat. According to the rules of the ICC, the logo of the sponsor on players bat cannot exceed nine inches.
However, officials reported that Vijay’s bat was flouting the rule regarding the sponsor’s logo and was fined 25% of his fee for the first Test match. The official added that Vijay was told about his breach and his penalty and that he accepted it.
It was also said that Vijay used the same logo in Australia but was surprisingly not reprimanded or fined for the infringement.
The Fatullah was a happy ground for Vijay as he scored a Test 150 in the first innings. India managed a hefty score of 462/6 in the first innings and would have wanted to roll Bangladesh out cheaply.
However, regular rain interruptions meant that Bangladesh would only lose 10 wickets of their first innings. They were asked to follow on by the Indian skipper but there was no time in the match for India to pick any wicket in the second innings.
Vijay was calm all throughout the game and gave great company to Shikhar Dhawan who was exceptional. Dhawan also scored a 150 in the Test match before he was out. The pair put on 283 runs for the first wicket. This is the second time Dhawan and Vijay put on more than 200 for the first wicket.
