After missing out the ongoing Caribbean tour, the Indian cricketer Murali Vijay is likely to sign for the English county cricket team Somerset for the last few weeks of the present county season.
According to the latest report of ESPNcricinfo, Murali Vijay and Somerset have already agreed with this deal. Both are now waiting for the approval of Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA).

Somerset are currently in the second position of the ongoing County Championship Division One 2019. After playing 11 matches in this tournament, they have earned 186 points, just two points behind from the table-topper in the points table – Essex (188 points).

While Somerset have three matches left in this Championship season, they are dreaming for their maiden Championship title. If the TNCA permits on time, the 35-year-old Murali Vijay can play in the last three matches of this Championship season.
Vijay made his county debut in last year where he served for Essex. The right-handed batsman played three matches in that season where he scored 323 runs in five innings with an average of 64.60. He hit one century and three half-centuries in that season. Somerset is hoping for similar kind of performances from Vijay in this season too. In the County Championship Division One 2018, Essex finished in the third position in the points table.
Murali Vijay is currently out of the Indian team but in the golden form in T20 cricket
Murali Vijay is hoping to change his present luck through this short stint in county cricket. Since the Perth Test last December, he hasn’t played a match for the national team. After the Bengaluru Test century against Afghanistan in June 2018, Vijay played eight Test innings but always failed to score over 20 runs. In the ongoing Caribbean tour, the selectors haven’t put faith on him.
However, the right-handed batsman is currently in an excellent form in T20 cricket. In the recently concluded TNPL 2019, Vijay was the second most run-scorer who scored 359 runs in just four innings with a spectacular average of 119.66. Playing for Ruby Trichy Warriors in that tournament, Vijay scored 81, 78*. 99 and 101 runs, respectively.
Vijay was also in-form during the last domestic T20 tournament – Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2018/19. He was the leading run-scorer for Tamil Nadu in that tournament where he scored 261 runs in four innings with an average of 65.25. He scored 3, 77, 74 and 107 runs respectively in that tournament.

However, he played only two matches for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2019. He played both those matches against Mumbai Indians (MI) where he scored 38 and 26 runs respectively. Vijay played the second game in IPL 2019 in the Qualifier 1.
