As the Indian domestic season is drawing closer, state cricket associations are busy selecting the best side for their respective state to play in the Ranji trophy.
Tamil Nadu Cricket Association has announced the 27-member probable squad for the upcoming Ranji season. The star attraction in the squad is of Murali Vijay and Dinesh Karthik.
Vijay who’s vying for a comeback to the national side after an injury lay off will be looking forward to performing well in the season.
Vijay who last played a Test match in March against Australia was ruled out of the Indian squad due to a wrist injury. However, that injury seems to have cost Vijay his spot in the national team, as his replacement Shikhar Dhawan took the opportunity with both hands and has been in sublime form since coming back to the team.
TNCA’s selection committee comprising S. Sharath, D. Girish, and P. Subbiah has also included some uncapped players to the squad. Even with Dinesh Karthik and N Jagadeeshan, the selectors have still included an uncapped wicket keeper batsman S Lokeshwar.
This season will also see the return of home and away concept following a review by the state captains. However, the neutral venue concept went in favour of the team from South. Neutral venues helped them change their team combination and play more fast bowlers than usual. As a result, last season saw the rise of three fast bowlers, K Vignesh, Ashwin Crist and T Natarajan.
Ashwin Christ and T Natarajan took full advantage of this opportunity and combined to pick up 72 wickets in the season. Kanitkar, the head coach of the team will be joined by former Indian fast bowler Lakshmipathy Balaji as his assistant and the bowling coach of the state team.
The probable squad will travel to Dehradun for a training camp, as their Ranji season begins on 6th October against Andhra Pradesh.
