Murali Vijay On Road To Recovery After Wrist Operation, Keen To Make A Comeback For Sri Lanka Series

Indian Test opener Murali Vijay is on the road to recovery after the right-handed batsman underwent a wrist surgery in London. Vijay is still undergoing rehabilitation camp and is hopeful of making comeback in the Test side for the Sri Lanka series,

“I am in the process of recovering. Have a few more days to go. I want to be at my best fitness-wise. I think I am in the right hands. He (Rajinikanth) is one of the best when it comes to rehab work. I am lucky to be working with him at the right time. The aim is to be a fitter cricketer. I have had an operation. I am hoping all will be well and I should be alright by then. I got the time to think about myself and my batting while concentrating on my fitness,” he said about the injury-enforced break,” Vijay told PTI.

Murali Vijay, who was the part of the Indian team during the last Test of the series at Dharamsala, was one of the many Indian players who missed IPL due to one or the other injury. He went to London for the wrist surgery. Later, Vijay revealed that he had played with a broken wrist during the season. He skipped only one Test out of 13 during the home season, which came against Australia, the second Test of the series played at Bengaluru. Abhinav Mukund replaced him in the playing XI.

With India set to travel Sri Lanka next month of a full-fledged series, Murali Vijay will be one of the players who would crucial for team India. His opening partner in Test i.e. KL Rahul is also counting upon his fitness and is targeting Sri Lanka series for a comeback, just like Vijay.

However, if Vijay gets selected, then he will be going in the series without match practice as there are no domestic competitions lined-up before the series. Same will the case with KL Rahul and we might see Indian selectors taking two backup openers in form of Abhinav Mukund and Shikhar Dhawan, who can make a comeback to Test side riding on his performance in Champions Trophy.
