Team India opener Murali Vijay continued his super form in his maiden County stint for Essex scoring an excellent hundred against Nottinghamshire.
Meanwhile, Vijay started his stint with a bang playing a knock of 56 runs in his debut innings. Furthermore, the stylish batsman backed it with another fine effort in the second innings.
However, Murali Vijay was left out of the India squad from the last two Tests against England. Moreover, he missed the third Test at Trent Bridge after registering a pair at Trent Bridge. Vijay was one of the leading run-scorers for India on the 2014 tour. He had scored 402 runs, however, could not hit the ground running on the 2018 tour.
Meanwhile, Essex needs 65 more runs to win against Nottinghamshire. Essex had made 233 runs in the first innings after Nottinghamshire were skittled out for 177. The hosts then went on to score 337 in the second innings. Consequently, Essex was set up a target of 282 runs.
Thus, the tourists needed their top order to provide a good platform. Vijay was finally able to find form in the English conditions. This performance would have acted as the shot in the arm for the right-hander. Hence, Vijay will like to once again secure his place in the Indian side.
Murali Vijay departed just after reaching his century as veteran spinner Samit Patel cleaned him up. He paired with Tom Westley to share a great stand to lay the platform for Essex.
