Murali Vijay Scores Duck For Somerset; Ravichandran Ashwin Again Shines At Late For His County Side
Indian opener Murali Vijay has made a poor debut for the English county cricket team Somerset. In his first game for this team, while Vijay scored seven runs in the first innings, he scored a duck during Somerset’s second innings.
In the County Championship Division One 2019, Somerset are currently playing against Yorkshire at Taunton. On the day one of this game (10th September), Somerset opener Vijay scored just seven runs off 46 balls. In that first innings, Vijay was caught behind to the wicketkeeper.

Day two (11th September) was worst for Vijay who again opened for Somerset in their second innings. This time the left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj trapped him for lbw while Vijay was facing the eighth ball and didn’t open his account yet.
Crucial time for Murali Vijay
It is the crucial time for the 35-year-old Indian Test specialist opener Murali Vijay. While the Indian Test openers are currently struggling to perform consistently, the recent two innings were very important for Vijay. If he could perform well in this short period, it might slightly open a chance for him to earn the Test team call-up as the selectors are likely to announce the squad for the home Test series against South Africa on Thursday (12th September).
Hopefully, Vijay can get a few more chances before the end of this County Championship season. But he must have to perform well if he gets any further chance.
Meanwhile, Somerset is in a good position after day two. While Somerset scored 199 runs in their first innings, Yorkshire were all out for just 103 runs. In their second innings, Somerset were batting on 269/5 at the stumps of day two. Somerset are leading by 365 runs.
Ravichandran Ashwin took three wickets
On the other hand, the Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin once again shined for his county side Nottinghamshire. The hosts Nottinghamshire are currently playing against Kent in the County Championship Division One 2019.
During the first innings, Ashwin bagged four wickets (4/121) as Kent managed to score 304 runs. However, Nottinghamshire were bundled out for just 124 runs while Ashwin scored just seven runs.
Kent were once batting on 165/1 in their second innings but at the stumps of the day two, they were batting on 236/8. Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin finished the day two with the bowling figures of 16-1-71-3. However, Kent are still leading by 416 runs.
