Vijay last represented India in the Test series against Australia but went onto miss the IPL due to a wrist injury. He made a comeback in the local league thereafter and was selected in the side for the ongoing Test series against Sri Lanka but later, he complained about having some pain in his wrist, which resulted in selectors calling back Shikhar Dhawan to the Test side, with Vijay being asked to bench again.
Though he has now recovered well and is all set to represent his TNPL franchise. He will, in fact, lead the team in a do or die game. Kovai Kings’ side is placed at the sixth position with just one win in four games and they have to win their next three games in a hope to stay alive for qualifying for the next round.
Meanwhile, the team is set to miss the services of Vijay Shankar. He has been asked to stay in South Africa as a replacement of Priyank Panchal, who will miss the two unofficial Test matches against South Africa A due to fever.
Shankar played a crucial role in the Indian team winning the tri-series, as he played an innings of 72 at a stage when Shreyas Iyer (140*) needed someone to stay with him so as to be alive in the chase. The first unofficial Test starts from August 12, whereas, the second game will commence on August 19.
