Mushfiqur Rahim Bats on Against Medical Advice After Bring Struck on Head

Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim was at the receiving end of relentless short bowling by the South African fast bowlers during the morning session of Day 3 of the 2nd Test between Bangladesh and South Africa. He had to be taken to the hospital after being struck on the head by a ferocious delivery from Duanne Olivier in Bloemfontein on Sunday.

The wicket-keeper batsman received the blow on his head during the 12th over of the day. Bangladesh was 52/2 in their 2nd innings after being asked to follow-on by the home team. Rahim decided to bat on against the medical advice and was later taken to the hospital after he was dismissed by Wayne Parnell 9 overs later.

The pain on Mushfiqur’s face was apparent after getting hit. He took his eyes of the short delivery and tried to duck. He fell to the ground hunching on his knees while the Proteas fielders helped him into a horizontal position. Bangladesh’s physiotherapist was quickly on the scene and was also accompanied by South African team manager Mohammad Moosahee who is a medical doctor.

Despite Mushfiqur remaining conscious Moosajee’s advice to the Bangladesh skipper was to leave the field for further inspection, but Mushfiqur decided to carry on until he was trapped in front by Wayne Parnell for a score of 26.

It hasn’t been the first time that Mushfiqur was struck on the head as a similar sort of incident happened during the Test series in New Zealand in Wellington in January when he had to be stretchered off the field after being struck by a lethal bouncer from Neil Wagner. He was taken to hospital but was discharged the same day.

Meanwhile, after losing the opening Test, the visitors are on the verge of surrendering the 2nd Test as well. The South African bowlers were all over Bangladesh and skittled them out quite cheaply. Meanwhile, Bangladesh is currently placed at 145/8 and is the on the verge of suffering a huge innings defeat.
