Mushfiqur Rahim Sets His Goal To Play 2023 Cricket World Cup

Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim is hopeful to continue his international career till 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

The 32-year-old Mushfiqur Rahim is one of the senior and important players in present Bangladesh national cricket team. He is the third most international run-scorer in Bangladesh cricket history.

While the Bangladesh team is focusing on beginning a new journey in the post-2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, Mushfiqur Rahim has set his future goal. The wicketkeeper-batsman has set his goal to feature in the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. India will host the next edition of the Cricket World Cup in 2023.

Like the all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and the opener Tamim Iqbal, Rahim has also featured in four Cricket World Cups. If he represents Bangladesh in the next CWC, it will be Rahim’s fifth CWC tournament experience.

Rahim recently told Cricbuzz, “Definitely, I have a big plan, but I like to think series-by-series. And I prepare according to that and also practice according to that. When you will think series by series, it will help to keep your form. If you think so far, it becomes tough to maintain the consistency. We have to think slot-by-slot, but at the end of the day, it’s far away. But it is my goal – to play 2023 World Cup.”

Whatever I have done, I am happy – Mushfiqur Rahim

In the recently concluded 2019 CWC, the right-handed batsman Rahim scored 367 runs in eight innings with an average of 52.42. The wicketkeeper-batsman hit one century and two half-centuries in this tournament. Rahim finished as the second most run-scorer for Bangladesh in this tournament as Shakib Al Hasan is leading this list with 606 runs.

Rahim feels satisfied to contribute to his team in the crucial moments.

He said about his performance in the 2019 CWC, “If you see the best batsmen list at No.4 currently, I think I will be at second (after Ross Taylor in this World Cup). So it is a big satisfaction. It also inspires me to do more hard work to achieve more success and face more challenges. And also prepare myself better to face more challenges. So whatever I have done, I am happy, but not as much as I expected but yes, I contributed in some matches that helped our team achieve victory.”

Rahim scored most runs at the no.4 batting position in 2019 CWC. New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor finished in the second position in this list with 350 runs in 10 innings.

It is high time to take my game to the next level – Rahim

Mushfiqur Rahim has admitted that he is in the last phase of his international career. He is confident to take his game to the next level.

Rahim added, “I’m not growing any younger, so I will try play in a way that I will have more impact. To be honest, I am in the last phase, so I don’t have any time to relax. After playing cricket for 10-15 years now, it is high time to take my game to the next level – like playing a match-winning innings and not just a 50 or 60. I have gained that belief (to take my game to the next level) because when you perform against a strong attack, in tough conditions, you gain that.”

Mushfiqur Rahim spoke about his healthy competition with Tamim Iqbal

Tamim Iqbal is the leading international run-scorer for Bangladesh as he has scored 12,754 runs. Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hasan is in the next position in this list with 11,601 international runs. Mushfiqur Rahim is in the third position in this list who has scored 11,069 international runs.

Rahim has admitted that he has a healthy competition with Tamim to beat each other. He feels that this competition makes the team stronger.

Rahim said, “Yes, definitely, we have that competition of beating each other. So the amount of runs that Tamim has made, if I can do the same, then definitely it will be a huge contribution for Bangladesh cricket. If I do, I can win Bangladesh many matches alone. And the way Shakib was batting (in the World Cup), if he continues in the same form, it will be better for both him and our team. And young players like Soumya and Liton, if they become more consistent, it will be better for the team and them.”

Bangladesh national cricket team played impressive cricket in the 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. They finished at the eighth position in the points table with seven points.
