The injury curse has hit Bangladesh cricket again. Wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim is the latest injury casualty.

As a result, he will miss the remainder of Bangladesh Cricket League, the franchise-based four-day competition.

The former Bangladesh skipper Rahim is sidelined for next three weeks with an ankle injury. He sustained the blow while playing football during the warm-ups.

Mushfiqur was in fine form before suffering the injury. He scored a century for table-toppers BCB North during their last match.

However, he will now miss the vital clash against second-placed East Zone in the fifth round.

“He sustained a sprain on his left ankle, and we suggested one week rest before we take the next course of action after watching his condition,” BCB chief physician Debashish Chowdhury told Cricbuzz. ”But our experience says these kind of sprains take around two to three weeks to recover usually.

Mushfiqur is the latest addition to Bangladesh’s growing list of injury casualties. All-rounder Mehedy Hasan has been diagnosed with a labral tear on his right shoulder. He is likely to miss the proposed ODI series against Afghanistan that is scheduled to be played in India in June.

“We have given him the first injection recently, and such injection can be used for two or three times,” said Debashish.

”It’s similar to Mustafizur Rahman’s injury. So the bottom line is, at first we are trying to handle the injury in a conservative way. And after getting the result we will decide later whether surgery is needed or not,” he added.

The doctor also stated that pacer Taskin Ahmed is on medication for his back pain.

”We have also observed that Taskin’s performance has gone downwards recently. Maybe his back pain is a reason for that. We are trying to manage it through exercise, physiotherapy and injection. At the moment no surgery is required for him, and hopefully, it will cure soon,” said Debashish.

On the other hand, opener Tamim Iqbal is undergoing a rehabilitation program to recover from his knee injury.

Also, the other players who are sidelined with injuries are Rubel Hossain (viral fever), Mossadek Hossain (back injury) and Nasir Hossain (ligament tear in the knee).
