Yashasvi Jaiswal has expressed his excitement over receiving his maiden India call-up. The youngster was named in India’s Test squad for the upcoming tour of West Indies. India are scheduled to play two Tests against West Indies, starting next month.

Yashasvi Jaiswal earned the call-up after impressing in domestic circuit and in IPL 2023. In first class cricket, he has scored more than 1800 runs in 15 games with the help of 9 centuries and 2 fifties. He averages more than 80 in red-ball cricket.

The left-handed batsman also enjoyed a stunning campaign in IPL 2023 where he plied his trade for Rajasthan Royals. The youngster scored 625 runs in 14 games with the help of 1 century and 5 fifties. He also scored the fastest-ever fifty in the history of IPL. Earlier this month, he replaced Ruturaj Gaikwad as the backup opener for the WTC final.

Yashasvi Jaiswal reacts after maiden call-up:

Reacting to his maiden Test call-up, Yashasvi Jaiswal revealed that his father could not control his emotions. The young batsman, whose family had to fight severe poverty, stated that his father started crying after learning about the call-up.

“My father started crying (when he got to know). I have not yet met my mother; I am going to see her in some time. I was out from the morning, had a practice session as well as some other work,” said Jaiswal as quoted by India Today.

“I am feeling good, I will try to do my best. I am excited but at the same time I just want to go out and express myself,” he added.

“I was a little nervous, till the time you do not get to know that your name is there in the team, there are butterflies. But it is a good feeling.”

“My preparations have been going good and I got to interact a lot with the senior players. The conversation has been very simple – to focus on my work. I learned from them that in the end ‘it is all about you, how you take it going forward’,” said Jaiswal, adding that he has interacted a lot with India captain Rohit Sharma and other senior players in Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane.” he concluded.

Apart from 2 Tests, India are also scheduled to play 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is against West Indies. While Jaiswal could not make it to the ODI squad, he is likely to be named in the T20I squad after his stunning exploits in the IPL.
