All eyes will be on Virat Kohli in the upcoming ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final between India and Australia. The much-awaited mega clash for Test supremacy will be getting underway on June 7 at the Oval in London.
Up against a formidable opponent in testing English conditions, India will be hoping that their former skipper stands tall for them once again. Virat Kohli has given the glimpse of his prime form in recent months. Last year, he ended his 3-year century drought in international cricket. Earlier this year, he played a fine knock of 186 against Australia in Ahmedabad before having a solid campaign in the IPL.
Virat Kohli will now be looking to deliver for Team India in the upcoming WTC final. And ahead of the big clash, the former India skipper fired a warning to Australia by saying that their competitiveness and high level of skill set brings out the best in him.
“Australian team is a very competitive side that if you give them even a small window, they will come very hard at you and capitalize. Their skill set is really high. That is the reason my motivation increases even more and I had to take my game to the next level against them. I have to rise and elevate my game against Australia to beat them,” Virat Kohli told Star Sports.
Speaking further, Virat Kohli opened up on the conditions at the Oval, the venue for the forthcoming Test and explained the challenges of batting in English conditions. The batting superstar opined that the batsmen need to be more focused and disciplined to do well in the testing English conditions.
“We would not get a flat wicket and batters need to be cautious. We need more focus and have to adapt to the situation and conditions. We will need more focus and discipline while batting.
“The toughest part about in seaming and swing conditions in England is about choosing the ball you need to hit, defend or leave. Playing with solid technique is important. The balance is very important while batting,” said Kohli.
Virat Kohli’s record against Australia:
Virat Kohli just loves playing against Australia and have scored heavily against them. He has a good record against them across formats and venues. He has already made it clear that Australia bring the best out of him and Pat Cummins & Co. will have their task cut out against him in the upcoming contest.
