Najam Sethi Made A Big Mistake After Signing Agreement With BCCI: Ehsan Mani

Ex-ICC President Ehsan Mani believes Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has a meek chance to collect the compensation from its Indian counterpart Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), after he learned according to the close sources within the world cricket governing body ICC while stating the Board has not filed a strong case against neighbouring cricket body.

“All I can say is, as told by my sources in the ICC, PCB’s case is weak against BCCI. The chances of BCCI paying compensation to the PCB are meek,” Mani was quoted as saying by Express Tribune.

It’s an interesting explainer, the PCB has demanded a compensation of USD 69 million from BCCI for not honouring the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), according to the outgoing chairman Shaharyar Khan, as Mani added the executive committee chairman of the Board have committed a mistake by signing the agreement.

“[Najam] Sethi made a big mistake by signing the agreement with the Indian board,” Mani added.

The 72-year-old Mani stated Sethi has failed to make it public, in a bid to give a clear view which would have had furthered revealed about the compensation if it have any listed in the agreement.

“He should show the agreement to everyone. Let’s see if it contains the clause of compensation,” Mani maintained.

However, the MoU was signed between the two Boards and were supposed to play six bilateral series between the timeline of 2015 and 2022.

However, Mani suggested the mutual understanding would work wonders to put an end to the strained relationships while suggesting a good policy can further brighten the chances of series in the foreseeable future.

“India have always rued government’s disapproval of a series, but cricket never stopped between the two countries. So if they come up with the right strategy, the problem can be solved,” Mani asserted.

While coming hard at the PCB, Mani has further asked country’s board management to make their account statements public on the official website, in a bid to keep the people informed over the money being spent.

In his startling revelation, Mani admitted Pakistan has enjoyed the better sharing in the ICC while adding it has lost the ground owing to the current situation while ruing about Pakistan’s representation within the Body.

“Things were different in the past; we used to have our say in the ICC. But now we have lost our voice in the council. Pakistan cricket is facing international isolation,” Mani further added.

Mani reiterated the amount of Rs 1.5 billion allotted the Board of Governors (BoGs) meeting, for the legal case would only be a ‘waste of money’ as he believes the matter could be resolved in a professional manner by bringing two boards on the same table, as he further feels BCCI is enjoying strong ties within ICC.
