Australia A just managed to get home in a thrilling fourth innings chase against India A at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane. Needing 159 to win in their second innings, Australia A ended Day 3 in a tricky situation as they already lost 4 wickets and were still 100 adrift. On the fourth and final day, it was essential for their overnight batsman to hold the innings together to avoid a defeat.

The start on the fourth day was delayed courtesy of a wet outfield and the prospects of a draw loomed. The play, though, began and opener Cameron Bancroft held the innings to ensure that there were no further breakthroughs for the Indians. Despite a sensational bowling effort, mainly from the new ball pair of Shardul Thakur and Varun Aaron, the hosts got home with three wickets remaining.

Despite losing the game, skipper Naman Ojha praised his side and lauded the bowling effort. “Yesterday our batters had a bad session and we need to improve on that,” Ojha said. “It’s all about mindset. The guys are coming from one-day matches and have a different mindset.”They will analyse their mistakes and work in the nets. Hopefully, they will be ready for the next match,” he said.

Ojha added that the loss of the morning session dented his side’s prospects. “It was a bit frustrating because the covers were off,” he said. “If we could have bowled in the morning, our bowlers would have had help from the moisture.”The bowlers really played their heart out and bowled well. The pacemen bowled really well on this type of wicket and I was happy with how they defended this score,” he said.”It’s a fourth-day wicket so I thought the spinners will get a little bit of spin but it was really tough on the spinners because there weren’t any patches on the wicket for them,” Ojha  said.
