Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad is highly likely set to host the high-octane India and Pakistan game of the 2023 ODI World Cup which is scheduled to be played during October-November in India. India will host the event after 12 long years in the home conditions.
The world’s largest stadium can host more than 1,00,000 spectators in the World Cup. According to reports, BCCI will announce the schedule of the World class event after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League 2023.
As per the reports in Indian Express, a total of seven venues will host the games of the Men in Blue and the famous Ahmedabad stadium is likely to host the India and Pakistan game. As per the report, the World Cup would begin on October 5.
BCCI has short-listed the venues of Nagpur, Bengaluru, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Trivandrum, Mumbai, Delhi, Lucknow, Rajkot, Indore, Bengaluru, and Dharamshala for the event and with Chennai and Bengaluru hosting most of the Pakistan games.
According to the sources, India wanted to play on the slow tracks against high-quality opponents like Australia, England, and South Africa as they feel that be an advantage for the Men in Blue, as they performed exceptionally well in the slow tracks.
“The Indian team has performed well on slow tracks in the past few years at home. So the team management had requested that whenever the schedule is being prepared the Indian team should face top teams on slow pitches. They wanted to have a home advantage.”
BCCI has started their preparation for the 2023 ODI World Cup, as the officials are working on the venues to host the games, with them developing the infrastructure around the country.
India Will Look to End ICC Title Drought In 2023 ODI World Cup
Last time, India played against Pakistan in a 50-over world cup in the rain-curtailed game in the 2019 World Cup, India won the game by an 89-run win (D/L method) in Manchester. India has emerged seven times victorious so far in World Cup out of the seven games they played against Pakistan.
As many fans believe the ODI World Cup this year will be the best chance for the Indian Team to end their ICC title drought, it has already hit an obstacle by injuries to main players like Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, and Shreyas Iyer.
Indian team failed to win a single ICC trophy post-Champions Trophy victory in 2013 under the leadership of MS Dhoni. Pertinently, India failed to cross the hurdle in the knockout stages despite doing well in the league stages in the past few years.
