Narrow escape for Andhra  and Tripura women cricketers 

Women cricket teams of Andhra Pradesh and Tripura had a narrow escape when lightning struck during a match at Perecharla in Guntur District. But, three people died outside the field. A palm tree outside the Andhra Cricket association cricket ground caught fire.

At least 20 people were killed due to lightning in different parts of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday as heavy rains lashed the state due to the impact of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. Six people died in Nellore district, four each died in Krishna and Prakasam districts, three deaths were reported from Guntur, two from East Godavari and one each from Anantapur and Srikakulam districts.

The state government has announced Rs 4 lakh exgratia each for the families of those killed due to lightning. The decision was taken at a meeting of top officials convened by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in the evening in Vijayawada to review the situation in the wake of heavy rains.

The women players, umpires and other officials had rushed inside the building after the rains lashed the ground. Minutes later, they heard a thundering sound. The players and others scurried for cover.

According to eye witnesses, a palm tree outside the ground was in flames due to the lightening.

The players and others rushed to the buses and the friendly match was abandoned.

Lightning accompanied by heavy rains claimed 20 lives in Andhra Pradesh. Three of them died in Guntur district.

Naidu spoke to officials and gathered information about the incident. Both, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana received a flurry of rains under the impact of the low pressure, that deluge the low lying areas and inundated roads, affecting the movement of traffic.
