Australia’s greatest wrist-spinner Nathan Lyon is likely to be not named in the squad for the three-match ODI series and as many T20I series against India. The spinner, however, will feature in the four-match Test series but it is not sure if he will play the two-practice matches scheduled ahead of the series.
According to reports in The Sydney Morning Herald, Cricket Australia will announce 18-men’s squad, on Thursday, for the limited-over series but Nathan Lyon’s name will be missing from the list.
The limited-over series could have been a proper preparatory stage for Lyon before he moves to play the Test series.
The Australian management is not likely to expose him in the warm-up games which are expected to be played by some of India’s Test regular cricketer. Moreover, with Sheffield Shield being stopped after November 11, Australia’s premier bowler will be missing action for five weeks before the much-anticipated series.
In such a situation, the ODI and T20I could have helped Nathan Lyon to be match-fit. However, Cricket Australia seems not to be interested to give him a chance in shorter formats.
Nathan Lyon had, earlier, showed his desire to play in limited-over legs. He had, overall, played just 29 ODIs and two T20s while last featured in the green and yellow jersey in World Cup 2019.
He was part of Australia’s 21-man squad to tour England but did not play a game. Without his inclusion, Aaron Finch led his team to victory in the ODI series over the World Champions while lost the T20I series with 1-2
