Neeraj Pandey hits back at Gautam Gambhir 1

Gautam Gambhir’s comments on biopics have caused quite a stir in the country. In this cricket-crazy nation, cricketers are treated as demigods and so anything against does not go down too well with the fans. As expected the fans criticised the southpaw when he said that cricketers do not deserve biopics. Gambhir claimed that people who have contributed more to the nation deserve them instead of a cricketer.

However, the director of MS Dhoni’s biopic, Neeraj Pandey does not agree with the former Indian opener and said that movies should not be made on a particular genre and every story should be covered.

“I’ve made films on both. We make stories. It’s not that every film should be of a particular genre or anything like that. I think as storytellers we need to talk about everything,” said Neeraj.

After the terrorist attacks on Indian army in Uri, Gambhir said that instead of cricketers, the martyrs deserve biopics. And so the director said that there should be no doubt on Dhoni’s stature as a hero in the society as apart from a great cricketer he is also a serving Lt Colonel in the Indian Army.

“This story is about the hero in us. It’s a very motivational inspiring story. That can come from anyone. And MS (Dhoni) is a serving Lt Colonel in the Indian Army. So that should answer your questions,” he said.

Sushant Singh Rajput, who is playing Dhoni’s character in the movie, said that any interesting story can be made as a movie.

“Films are made on stories. I’ve played an engineer five times in the theater. The story wasn’t on an engineer, but the inherent story. If the story is worth telling, then you can play anything,” he said as the duo was speaking at the launch of “Har Gully Mein Dhoni” song.

When asked about Dhoni’s reaction after watching the movie, neeraj said:“We both were silent for about ten minutes after we had seen the film. That goes to say he must’ve liked it. There was nothing to say.”

The much-awaited movie will release on September 30.
