We are in the ninth season of the IPL and before this season began we had just 5 players who had scored 3000 or more in Indian Premier League. But less than a week into the IPL 2016 and already two more batsmen have made it to the list. Shockingly both are wicket-keepers. Can you guess who?
Without talking anything more about it, here’s revealing the latest entrant into the 3000 run club in IPL –
Player | Matches | Runs | Average |
Suresh Raina (GL) | 134 | 3719 | 34.11 |
Rohit Sharma (MI) | 130 | 3476 | 33.10 |
Gautam Gambhir (KKR) | 119 | 3235 | 30.23 |
Virat Kohli (RCB) | 124 | 3212 | 33.11 |
Chris Gayle (RCB) | 83 | 3200 | 45.71 |
Robin Uthappa (KKR) | 122 | 3039 | 29.79 |
Mahendra Singh Dhoni (RPS) | 131 | 3008 | 39.57 |
Stat updated at the end of the first innings in the Match between Gujarat Lions and Rising Pune Supergiants
With a score of 22*, Mahendra Singh Dhoni became the 7th player in the history of IPL to complete 3000 runs in IPL. Though he took the most number of matches to reach this landmark he still has the 2nd highest strike rate when compared to other players with 3000 or more runs. No doubting who tops the list in terms of average as it can’t be anyone else apart from Chris Gayle.
Another point to make a note here is that all the other six players listed in here bat in the top order, whereas Dhoni usually bats in the middle order most often. This is one reason why this achievement of Captain Cool is even more special.
If we take a look at the list of player with most runs in IPL, it is the captain of Gujarat Lions, Suresh Raina who tops the list. Not just that, 5 out of the 7 players to be listed in this list are captains of their respective teams.
Whereas Chris Gayle is the only foreign player to be featured in the list of players with most runs in IPL. Next foreign player who can make it to this list is AB de Villiers as he has currently scored 2652 runs.
