New Zealand announce squad for first Test against Sri Lanka
New Zealand Cricket (NZC) on December 20th announced their squad for the first Test against Sri Lanka, which starts in Christchurch on December 26th. All-rounder Corey Anderson has been ruled out due to groin injury he sustained during the tour of UAE against Pakistan. Dean Brownlie has been named as the replacement for Anderson.
Skipper Brendon McCullum, who opened the innings in the Tests at UAE, will return to the middle-order again and most probably Brownlie will open the innings with Tom Latham.
Fast-bowlers Tim Southee and Trent Boult also return to the squad after being rested for the ODI series at UAE. Leggie Ish Sodhi failed to make the cut as selectors opted for only one specialist spinner in the name of Mark Craig, who took 10 wickets in the third Test against Pakistan at Sharjah.
Squad for the first Test:
Brendon McCullum (capt), Trent Boult, Doug Bracewell, Dean Brownlie, Mark Craig, Tom Latham, James Neesham, Hamish Rutherford, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor, Neil Wagner, BJ Watling (wk), Kane Williamson.
Probable Playing XI:
Tom Latham, Dean Brownlie, Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor, Brendon McCullum, James Neesham, BJ Watling, Mark Craig, Tim Southee, Trent Boult, Neil Wagner
