Bangladesh’s limited-overs skipper Mashrafe Mortaza, on Sunday, suffered a fracture to his right arm thumb during the third and the final T20I against New Zealand at Bay Oval. Mortaza underwent a scan for the same and it has been revealed the injury will keep him on the sidelines for nearly four to six weeks.
“Mashrafe had an X-ray done immediately after the match and the report has confirmed a fractured right metacarpal. Recovery is expected to take between four to six weeks and will be followed by a short rehab. The injured area will be put in a cast as he recovers,” Bangladesh physio Dean Conway said.
He is not the part of the Test squad and will make a comeback in the series against Sri Lanka, two months from now.
Mortaza injured his thumb when he was trying to stop a powerful straight drive from Corey Anderson, who played a magnificent 94-run knock to help his team whitewash the visitors 3-0.
To add to it, Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes also injured themselves during the game and it has come as a big scare for Bangladesh, as both these players are in the squad of the first Test, which starts from January 12 in Wellington. Team management will assess their situation over next 48 overs before taking any decision on their participation.
