3. Inexperienced openers:
As Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have ruled out this series because of injury, the youngster Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal played their debut ODI series. However, they failed to give a convincible start to the team.
Agarwal lost his wickets within powerplay while Shaw played immaturely despite getting starts. However, Shaw looked a bit better, Agarwal was a complete failure with scores of 32, 3 and one in the three games
Shaw’s attempt to gather runs quickly for the team cost him as he went on to lose wicket against New Zealand pacer. He scored 20, 24 and 42 in his three games.
As the top order lost wickets early, it created pressure on others in the team. Usually, India always enters with strong openers, who used to score a high percentage of total runs.
