India’s premium fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has suffered an ankle injury during the first T20I match against New Zealand at Eden Park in Auckland. It could be a worrying factor for Team India while considering the month-long tour of New Zealand.

While bowling the second ball of his last over, Bumrah twisted his ankle shortly after delivering the ball. Soon after, he sat on the ground while writhing in pain. Immediately, the physio of Team India attended the pacer. It was a good piece of news for Team India, as well as for fans, as the Bumrah stood up to complete the final over of Kiwis innings.

The yorker king comfortably bowled the remaining balls of the over. But nothing much could be said about his injury. Though he had twisted his ankle, it might create a hurdle for the speedster in the future or it might also lead his ouster from the remaining five-match T20I series.

However, he was the fruitful bowler when it comes to the small ground of Auckland. Bumrah was the only bowler to give away less than eight runs in an over and also picked one wicket of wicketkeeper-batsman Tim Seifert. The Kiwis finished their innings on a mammoth total of 203 for five after being asked to bat first. New Zealand opener Colin Munro, skipper Kane Williamson, and right-hand batsman Ross Taylor scored the fifties each.

Meanwhile, Bumrah had made the come back in Team India after being out of the game for a long time. Last year, he missed the whole home season after suffering from the minor stress facture at the lower back. With the start of 2020, he played the T20I series against Sri Lanka and then featured with the team in the ODI series against Australia.

After the first T20I match, India will play the second T20I match 26 January (Sunday) at Eden Park in Auckland.
