New Zealand vs India 2020: Ravindra Jadeja Takes Subtle Dig at Sanjay Manjrekar
After the emphatic display in the second T20I game versus New Zealand, the Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja teases the former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar on Twitter. India clinched the second game of the ongoing five-match series by seven wickets on Sunday. It ended up on as the perfect day for the visiting Men in Blue as they celebrated the 71st Republic Day with a lead in the series by 2-0.
While the series opener had been the game for the batsmen, the second one was stolen by the brilliant bowling display from India. New Zealand openers, however, had a great start as they registered quick boundaries in the early five overs. But the remarkable bowling by the pacers had tied up the Kiwi batsmen.
As soon as Martin Guptill and Colin Munro returned to the hut, it became difficult for the hosts to even get past the 100-run mark at one stage. The change in the pitch helped the Indian pacers to mount the necessary pressure on Kiwis batters. Apart from Guptill (33) and Tim Seifert (33) none of the Black Caps were able to go past the tally of 20 runs.
However, the combination of Jasprit Bumrah’s deceiving bouncers and Jadeja’s spin kept New Zealanders quiet in the death overs. While Bumrah has been getting back to his game after recovering from the injury, Jadeja had faired equally well on the foreign soil.
Jadeja bowled his quota of four overs and plucked two wickets while giving away merely 18 runs in the game. By the end of New Zealand’s innings, Jadeja and Bumrah had the least economy rate of 4.50 and 5.25 respectively.
Ravindra Jadeja indulges in a funny banter with Sanjay Manjrekar:
However, the second T20I saw KL Rahul sailing his team past the target of 133. Rahul took over the responsibility of scoring runs as he saw the two veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli getting out for just 8 and 11 runs, respectively.
The former Indian Cricketer turned commentator, Manjrekar, meanwhile, took to his Twitter account to praise the Indian bowling and said that the ‘bowler deserved the Player of the Match’.
Earlier, in the World Cup 2019, Manjrekar had commented on Jadeja’s unsteady performance in the game that offended the Indian allrounder. The commentator called him the ‘bits and pieces cricketer‘ which did not sit well with Jadeja who later slammed an impressive 59-ball 77 in the semi-final clash versus New Zealand. Back then, he almost sailed India past the finish line in the game after MS Dhoni’s dismissal.
Jadeja, later, posted a tweet for Manjrekar where he asked the cricketer to respect fellow players.
He wrote, “still I have played twice the number of matches you have played and I m still playing. Learn to respect ppl who have achieved.i have heard enough of your verbal diarrhea.”
However, months later of the heated conversation, Manjrekar praised the Indian bowling in the second game against New Zealand. Jadeja immediately took the opportunity to tease him and asked him to mention the name of the bowler who deserved to be Player of the Match.
Here is the thread of conversation between Ravindra Jadeja and Sanjay Manjrekar:
Player of the match should have been a bowler. #INDvNZ

Ha ha…Either you or Bumrah. Bumrah, because he was extremely economical while bowling overs no 3, 10, 18 and 20. https://t.co/r2Fa4Tdnki
