New Zealand vs India 2020: 2nd ODI, Eden Park – Match Preview, Predicted XI, Prediction, Where to Watch

After facing the thrashing defeat in the first ODI on Wednesday (5th February), the Men in Blue will be gearing up to make the needed comeback in the 2nd ODI. Although Virat Kohli & his men scored fairly good, especially with the openers falling in the first ten overs, the hosts swiftly chased down the target in less than the allotted overs.

Previously in the T20I series, India emerged as the ultimate winners as they registered the historic win of 5-0 in the series. However, they were unable to carry the winning glory in the first ODI held at Hamilton on 5th February.

With Rohit Sharma being ruled out of the remaining tour, India’s top-order struggled to keep their stance against the Kiwi pacers. And if not for the century by Shreyas Iyer and the half-centuries added by Virat Kohli (51) and KL Rahul (88), it would have been difficult for India to score past 300-runs mark.

In the meantime, it had been quite the opposite with the hosts as they managed to clinch the ODI opener with 11 balls to spare. While Ross Taylor scored a blistering 84-balls 109, the skipper Tom Latham (69) and Henry Nicholls (78) scored a half-century each to help the team earn that victory.

The two teams will now head on to Auckland, where they opened the first match of the tour, for the 2nd ODI to be played on February 8.

Weather forecast:

With the game starting from afternoon, it is expected to be partly clouded on Saturday. But during the batting of the second team in the evening, patchy rain is forecasted by the experts. Meanwhile, it is still expected to be windy with the temperature ranging from 23-17 degrees.

Pitch Report:

The first two games of the T20I series were played at the Eden Park where India marked their winning lead in the shorter version of the cricket series. The humid and sub-tropical conditions of the ground make it more spinner friendly.

So, it will be good for the toss winner to opt to bowl first, especially India, as they have the perfect spinners lined up in their bowling squad.

The Virat Kohli-led team is expected to have no major changes in the squad as of now. But they might swipe young Navdeep Saini in place of Shardul Thakur while replacing Kuldeep Yadav with Yuzvendra Chahal.

Predicted Playing XI:

Prithvi Shaw, Mayank Agarwal, Virat Kohli (c), Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (Wk), Manish Pandey, Ravindra Jadeja, Navdeep Saini, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Yuzvendra Chahal.

New Zealand’s Predicted XI:

With the first victory in their hand in this home contest so far, the hosts have the perfect rhythm for the series for now. Ish Sodhi will miss out the next two matches as he has been selected only for the first ODI.

Predicted Playing XI:

Martin Guptill, Henry Nicholls, Tom Blundell, Ross Taylor, Tom Latham (C/Wk), James Neesham, Collen de Grandehomme, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, Kyle Jamieson, Hamish Bennett.

Match Prediction:

With the shorter dimensions of the ground at Auckland, Eden Park is considered as the batting paradise for the swift boundaries it offers. And given the batting line-up in both the teams’ squad, it is likely to have the first batting team give a fairly big target to score.

Moreover, with New Zealand struggling to play against Indian spinners, it is likely for India to level the series in the 2nd game on Saturday.
