Newlands Cricket Ground (NCC), located in Cape Town, had once again suffered from the robbery on the Easter weekend. The armed robbers broke multiple suites in the ground. They eventually robbed few TV sets, liquor bottles, and other stuff before sneaking their way out. However, this is not the first-time incident which has taken place at the iconic venue. It has happened for the third time since 2015.

The raid on the ground began around midnight when a lady came to the security personnel to ask the directions to a church, according to Western Province Cricket Association (WPCA) release.

But, she soon came along with three other men who jumped over the fences and also 15 more men came along, some of whom carried guns with them.

The security soon gave up and handed over the keys to the Presidential suite in the stadium. The robbers soon raided and loaded the things into three separate vehicles before departing.

Police begin the investigation:

“The South African Police Services are busy with an extensive investigation into the event and we will also reassess our security measures, including the possibility of having more cameras installed,” said a senior official of WPCA.

“We will seriously look within our budgetary constraints to improve our security situation at the stadium,” official added.

“WHILST IT IS TRULY APPALLING FOR THIS TYPE OF ROBBERY TO TAKE PLACE AT OUR ICONIC CRICKET STADIUM WHERE WE HAVE ENJOYED SOME WONDERFUL MEMORIES THIS PAST SEASON, WE ARE THANKFUL THAT THE SECURITY GUARD CAUGHT UP IN THIS CRIME WAS UNHARMED. HE HAS BEEN OFFERED THE NECESSARY COUNSELLING IN ORDER TO HELP HIM RECOVER FROM THIS ORDEAL,” THE OFFICIAL CONCLUDED.

Newlands Cricket Ground is one of the most beautiful stadiums in the world. The ground had already hosted two test games this season.

In contrast, India played first, followed by Australia last month (March). This venue is where the infamous sandpaper gate took place which resulted in the ban of three Australian cricketers.
