Australia’s Nic Maddinson is finally back to training with his domestic side New South Wales Blues after taking an indefinite break from cricket (due to personal reasons) last week.
Maddinson, who missed the game against Queensland in the first-class competition, trained in Sydney with his NSW teammates before missing out on batting practice due to rain at Drummoyne Oval in Sydney.
Maddinson, who has featured in two Twenty20 international matches for Australia, had a tough outing in the Big Bash League’s sixth edition, where he scored just 75 in seven games after being dropped from the third Test against Pakistan at Sydney last month.
While making his Test debut against South Africa at Adelaide in the Pink Ball Test, Maddinson struggled to score runs with his bat. He has 27 runs in three Tests at an average of 6.75.
However, his decision grabbed the eyeballs involving the former Australian cricketers in a discussion about the overlooked players from the national team in the recent past.
Last week, Maddinson had met the official members of NSW Blues after deciding to spend some time off-the-field.
Earlier, Maddinson’s NSW teammate Ed Cowan showed disliking towards Cricket Australia over the handling of dumped players.
Maddinson has not played cricket since January 28, before pulling out of two fixtures in the last two Sheffield Shield games for Blues.
NSW Blues play their next match against Tasmania, which will start on February 25 in Wollongong.
