Ex-BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah has opened fire against Shashank Manohar, former ICC Chairman for causing a lot of harm to Indian cricket. Prior to this, former BCCI President, N Srinivasan had also stated that Shashank Manohar’s stepping down as the ICC Chief should be a matter of glory for Indian cricket as he has caused a lot of harm to the Indian cricket fraternity being the ICC head.
On Wednesday, the ICC said that Shashank Manohar stepped down from the role of ICC chairman after two 2-year tenures at the top job. The ICC Board met and agreed that Deputy Chairman Imran Khwaja will assume the responsibilities of the Chairperson until a successor is elected.
Now, former BCCI Secretary, Niranjan Shah has openly criticized Manohar for his approach towards Indian cricket while staying on the illustrious chair for a couple of years.
Niranjan Shah Lashes Out At Shashank Manohar
“Shashank Manohar stepping down as Chairman of ICC was rather obvious. Shashankji must be having mixed feelings from what could have been done for the promotion of cricket at international level and what was done to cricket of India during his tenure,” Shah said.
“In the relaxed phase now he may evaluate his tenure as Chairman of ICC and also as of BCCI that has been the platform. He may appraise what damage was done to Indian cricket and BCCI during his tenure; forgetting that cricket and cricket fans of India have given utmost popularity to the game; and also how much revenue and fame cricket of India has brought to the world of cricket,” he said.
Shashank Manohar Is Responsible For BCCI’s Turmoil In The Last 2 Years: Niranjan Shah
Shah further stated, “BCCI went through much turmoil in the last couple of years. And ICC during these years took undue advantage to damage cricket of India and BCCI in all possible manner. However, I am fully confident that present strong and worthy leaderships of BCCI shall have strong, beneficial and constructive representation and initiatives at ICC.”
The BCCI has been in a tussle with Shashank Manohar ever since he was appointed the ICC chief 2 years ago. Shashank is accused of limiting India’s share of revenue in ICC’s total revenue. While the ICC adopted the Big Three model during the tenure of Srinivasan as ICC chairman, Manohar’s leadership cut down India’s share in the revenue model.
Recently, he was under tremendous fire for delaying a final call on the ICC T20 World Cup so as to hamper the IPL‘s proceedings even after Australia themselves stating that they are not in a position to hold the multi-nation tournament this year.
