No excuses for us – MS Dhoni

Kolkata Knight Riders outclassed the Rising Supergiants in a thrilling encounter in Pune, to register yet another victory. For the hosts, things only seem utterly bleak, as the loss to Knight Riders has further dampened their chances of making it to the playoffs. MS Dhoni gave glimpses of his good old self, as he finished on a high for the Supergiants to propel them to a decent total of 160 in 20 overs.
The Knight Riders got off to a dreadful start as both the openers were sent back quickly. Promoted at number 3, Surya Kumar Yadav batted exceedingly well to rescue the Knight Riders. He found able support from Yusuf Pathan as the duo eased into the run chase. It all came down to the last over, where Umesh Yadav finished off the game with a maximum.
In the post-match presentation, Pune skipper MS Dhoni admitted that his bowlers didn’t bowl at the right lengths and that hurt them. “I thought it was difficult to hit the spinners as I told them not to pitch it up. But, I think after that there were some 5-6 sixes hit, 30 runs too many. It was a good score and there are no excuses for us. When there is pressure on the individual, they are backing off. Taking responsibility is a very strong character to have and not many have that. What really matters is, how you execute the plans on the field,” said Dhoni.
Dhoni added that if Pune were to improve, their bowlers would have to step up and do well. “If we have to compete in this tournament, our bowling unit has to step up. Murugan Ashwin is new to the arena, but he has to take care of things which are under his control. When you have the bat or ball in your hand, it is up to you, nobody can help you. There are many bowlers who are not part of a settled team, that is something we need to look into. We also should score 10-15 runs more,” said Dhoni.
