Kolkata, March 29 (IANS) Sony Pictures Network on Wednesday clarified that there will be no television commentary in Kannada for the coming Tenth Indian Premier League.
“We would like to clarify that this year IPL will be telecast only in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Bengali. Kannada is not one of the telecast languages for IPL,” said an SPN spokesperson.
The English feed will be available on Sony SIX channels and the Tamil, Telugu, Bengali and Hindi language feeds on SONY ESPN channels.
Sony MAX will exclusively broadcast the Hindi feed, the company said.
Sony has begun the regional languages commentary from the past IPL seasons which is gaining popularity as time progresses.
The tenth edition of IPL is being held from April 5 to May 21.
In the meantime, Sony has announced earlier that IPL 2017 matches would be also seen in Tamil commentaries despite the absence of Chennai-based IPL franchise team Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Sony Pictures Networks India’s EVP and business head – sports clusters, Prasanna Krishnan, has given the reason to continue the Tamil commentary for IPL 2017 that the Tamil Nadu market was at the number three position in terms of viewership numbers for last year’s IPL. On the note, CSK was also absent in the previous year’s IPL due to suspension.
Sadagoppan Ramesh, Hemang Badani and VB Chandrasekhar will be seen as the Tamil commentators for IPL 2017 while Venkatapathy Raju, Venugopal Rao and Kalyan Krishnan will be in the Telugu commentary box for IPL 2017.
